Gone.

  • Lazy mornings and lavish midday brunches (Crepes with peaches and whipped cream, anyone?)
  • Long unscheduled days, open to all kinds of possibility.
  • Lingering conversations, unhindered by the demands of time.
  • Vacationing to favorite getaways, until we're worn out from our own self-imposed fun.
  • Finding a comfy spot to curl up and bury our nose in a book, and another, and another.
  • Lounging on the patio and dining al fresco.
  • Practicing golf swings with Grandpa.
  • Walking barefoot on the lawn, with grass tickling our toes.
  • Wonderful friends visiting from faraway places.
  • Sticky snow cones staining our tongues and dripping down our wrists.
  • Leisurely walks on mountain trails to warm springs and gushing waterfalls.
  • Downtime to think, and ponder, and daydream.
  • Fabulous sleepovers with cousins, cousins, and more cousins.
  • Late-night movies, revisiting old classics and new releases with equal fascination.
  • Dad reading novels out loud before bed.

The kids started school yesterday.
Our summer is officially over.

But the magical sun-drenched memories will warm us when the weather chills.

What wonderful summers you must have had! :)

And if it helps, Mum and Dad will be visiting SLC in a couple of months (as you no doubt read on Mum's blog), and they're wonderful and friendly - maybe if you all get the chance to catch up they could count as 'Wonderful Friends visiting from Far Away Places' :)

Wish I was coming to visit too!

I hope you still get to do some of these things!

perfect list of memory making
I've made a list of books to read in homework quiet evenings, as the summer is hectic right until the wee hours with older teens/adults, travel sports,
something to look forward to with the cold weather

That is one of the things that scares me the most about my child growing up--finite endings. We spend most of the summer without Daddy, so his school starting doesn't change much.

Wow...your summer sounds amazing. Mine mostly involved sweat and bugs and missing my husband because it was his busy season. It's fall that sings to my soul...of course, I've never sent a child away to school so my feelings may abruptly change...

For me the end of summer is a happy time right now because it means my oldest comes back from his dad's after being gone for weeks and weeks. I can hardly wait!

The summer went by way to fast, and I loved your list. It's nice to look forward to next summer. I'm going to keep your "list" for a reference. I hope you are well and we can see each other soon.

I want to spend my summers exactly like this list when my boys are a little older. Of course, I can do a few of them now...but I can't wait for the watching classic movies and reading books together (for more than 3 minutes at a time) :)

I'm sorry school stole summer.

I can't believe it's over already.

When are we doing lunch? Or brunch. Or breakfast for that matter.

I love the hanging out with the kids, but when they start asking for school it is over. Hope you feel good about your Summer and that you are ready for a good remainder to 09. It's been a big year so far for you guys.

ps: I giggle when I imagine al fresco to mean naked. tee hee

Just so you know, the summer memories that I have from the time I spent with your family are some of the best I've ever had. That patio thing reminded me of Josh's birthday dinner outside, which, by the way, really was amazing. Every time I eat angel food cake it takes me right back. Thank you.

You had a full summer! :)

I look forward to:

*Spirit Week at school.

*Wearing jeans more often.

*Carving pumpkins.

*Our annual Halloween party, and the neighborhood Block Party.

*The changing colors of fall.

School does seem to change all that, doesn't it?! I like the comment above mine.... Now, that's a positive spin on things, especially when I'm also looking back at summer a little wistfully.

Hope you can find a few lazy days in all of this to read and watch movies. (I did a pretty good job of that today!)

I'm glad you had positive things to list about the summer. It seems like a lot of blogs I've read talk about how happy they are their kids are going back now.

We still have a couple of weeks left before school starts, but we have been making a lot of memories I will cherish forever.

Sounds like the PERFECT summer, so well captured. Definitely one to remember! Sad that the school year rolls around again, but it makes the summers that much more special that you have to wait for them and they only last so long!
